New York Theatre Workshop is a small downtown theatre (across from La Mama!) with a storied history. It has produced some extraordinary plays, such as Hadestown, that went on to uptown Broadway success. Right now you can see Lights Out, a bio-musical about Nat "King" Cole by Colman Domingo and Patricia McGregor starring Dulé Hill and Daniel J. Watts. The two performers are sensational. If you need to sit, try not to come early because there's almost no seating in the lobby.
