This place is doing an amazing work for the less fortunate! It’s very inspiring to see in person. We did the Saturday tour and Michael did an amazing and informative job showing us the facilities! Black owned shelter. That should tell you all you need to know. Good shelter, generally tolerable staff, and a place to sleep. That said, there had been really weird things happening since I started staying here. Watch your back. Even if it is a mission-based shelter, people have stolen: my shoes, one of my wireless earbuds and left the ear cushion where I can find it, my skincare products, my medication, my eye contacts, and one of my shoe insoles that I use when walking everywhere. Stealing is a huge issue here. If it’s not on your body or in your locker, apparently it’s free game and people are not sorry. Place picks up a lot of these types of people. There are cameras but only in the locker rooms. Security does what they can but it’s seriously an issue. Not only were my things stolen, but my skin has never been worse since I started staying here. I noticed a sign on a push-pin board that says "Do not take the push pins", implying that people steal the pushpins and the staff keeps supplying them with new ones. Soon after, I started to break out in big scarring pimples that are taking weeks to heal from, even with facial care products. I am under the impression that people are stabbing my face in my sleep with dirty push pins because I openly do self-care and wash my face. Moreover, I have been having allergic reactions breaking out on my arms near my tattoos, something I have never faced anywhere, not even in shady Air Bnbs around the city. On top of that, I have been suffering from an impression that seems like someone used some sort of corrosive on my ankle, causing dryness, a visual impression scarring my ankle, and constant itching. The structure of the shelter also needs attention. When it rains hard, there is no drainage for the main walkway to the men's side of the shelter. So if you arrive after it rains, you are forced to get your shoes and socks soaking wet since there's no way around the huge puddle that gathers. Not only that, but the locker room is frequently flooded when it rains, if it's dry, it's a rat's playground with little mice running around. This black-owned establishment just feels like a spit in the face and a deceptively oppressive environment for anyone, more so for non-blacks. Yes, you get a bed and breakfast, maybe even a movie and dinner, but the degenerative tradeoff is NOT worth your well-being.

I stayed here for a couple of months while being homeless and trying to get on my feet. Although the shelter did help me get into the CHA, which I’m grateful for I did have a really bad experience here they’re very extreme when it comes to Christianity and if you’re not a Christian, then they make you feel bad about not being a Christian and they shame you for not being a Christian. They force you to go to sermon twice a day And pressure you to convert. If you work a job and you come in after breakfast lunch or dinner has been served even by a couple minutes, they will not feed you Any food Or give you a lunch bag for you to eat so you have to go to bed hungry and you cannot bring in any outside food. The woman’s staff was very rude. And kind of disrespect Almost having a power trip over you if you act certain Or ask for things like pads or anything. Miss Edna was really nice though, but everybody else was very rude. And they refused to help you job wise only offering a Cara Program But no way to get there no bus pass or anything like that.

This is one place I must visit. I've been listening to Unshackled radio dramas since the 1970s. I love everything do for my Lord Jesus Christ, from the online radio broadcast, to all the different programs like histories greatest sermons.
