Peter's Field

Why Peter's Field is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Peter's Field is a cherished community playground and park located between 20th and 21st Streets and First and Second Avenues in New York City. Named in honor of prominent historical figures named Peter, including Peter Cooper, it serves as an inviting outdoor space particularly for the children attending M.S. 104 nearby. The park was officially opened in 1965 after the demolition of a post-graduate hospital previously located on the site, allowing the community to gain a revitalized green space in Manhattan's East Side. This park features a variety of recreational facilities such as tennis courts and basketball hoops, which were added and renovated over the years, with a notable upgrade in 1998 that enhanced the play and sports environment for local residents. Peter's Field is also adorned with beautiful landscaping including London plane trees, meidiland roses, oakleaf hydrangeas, Japanese barberries, lady's mantle, and tulips, creating a pleasant atmosphere for visitors. Along Second Avenue, artistic cast concrete plaques celebrate various fictional and cultural figures named Peter, such as Peter Pan and Peter Parker, offering an engaging element of public art that adds character and charm to the park. Jointly operated by NYC Parks and the Department of Education, Peter's Field stands out as an accessible, safe, and enjoyable place for friends and families to meet, play, and relax in the heart of the city.

After 1997, and a significant investment round $517,000 renovation to the playground this park turned up. So nowadays there are many improvements here like tennis and basketball courts. Also a variety of plants decorate the park today including meidland roses, oakleaf hydrangeas, japanese barberries, landy's mantle and a host of tulips. I enjoyed this site indeed. ****
