Gordie makes this place super fun! He also truly cares about his players and their progress. I always catch him give everyone in the group amazing feedback, even if he just walks by and isn’t even coaching that day. If you are thinking of joining, definitely request to be evaluated by him. Some of the front desk staff could be nicer to members but overall, coaches are what make this place wonderful. Tony is great too and he was the one who gave me an introduction of the club when I first moved and am about to become a member after doing a few drill&plays!

Update: I have stopped playing here for many months already, but I’ve heard more disturbing things from friends about this place. You people really have no shame! Play app glitches, that remove players from classes and wait lists and don’t allow for sign up. SUFFOCATING NEGATIVE ENERGY. Women playing on court 4 were almost hurt so badly because of the cracks and crevices that you won’t repair. you already had some insanely rude workers, but now I hear you support the PUBLIC DEGRADATION of lovely women. This heinous act was committed by the program director! where do you draw the line??!!?! It was Bad enough to think of what you do and say behind closed doors, now we know. stop feigning innocence and blaming players for your cruel unprofessionalism and incompetence. No one wants to come there to be downtrodden, frustrated, or to be BULLIED. We pay to have fun or at least have some peace without all the attitude. You’re NOT doing us the favor when we pay to play there. You’re lucky so many tennis clubs closed that anyone will play @rirc, that is nothing to be proud of. Here we come PADEL! Previous review 3 months ago 11/2024: I agree with Carl’s review. Could be a nice place, but it’s not well maintained. Their court fees are the highest I’ve ever seen, for the worst courts!! Front desk guy is totally unprofessional, disinterested, annoyed, and rude. It’s too much to make any inquiries there. The classes at rirc aren’t at the level it says they are. Allegedly the mean general manager has a drinking problem, alcohol on her breath at the club, am/pm.The POSITIVE is that most of the tennis pros are cordial enough, cleaning ladies are too. This club needs new management and new administrative staff right away. Tennis in nyc is in need of a serious revival with better customer service across the board.

I am a current member of this club and will not be returning for the following reasons: - Teachers are incredibly hit-or-miss. Unfortunately the "good" ones who make you feel welcome and are invested in your growth (or at least act like it) are not the majority. The other teachers range from completely phoning it in to downright rude. There's been one instance where I showed up to class and no teacher showed up at all. - What other reviewers said about the court conditions is accurate -- it started to get pretty bad towards the latter half of 2024. - If you are a beginner, a membership is 100% not worth it. They don't have a ton of classes/event offerings tailored to beginners -- they don't even have a roster/spreadsheet of beginner members to encourage matchplay between members (which is a supposed membership "benefit"). I should have probably done more due diligence on my end before dropping membership $$$ BUT... - Admin staff is non-existent. If I had questions about anything, esp. about memberships, getting a clear answer -- or a response at all -- was very very difficult. RIRC charges premium prices but you do not get a premium product, IMO. I had some good experiences here but the cons outweigh the pros.

R.I.R.C. Is a boring, low energy, stale club. the negative reviews here are spot on There are 6players per court and player’s levels are not monitored. 2 weak players will wreck a stronger class level instantly. shouldn’t be so hit or miss when many are regulars, and their skill level is already known. courts unfortunately have HOLES and DENTS in them too. It appears that the prerequisites to working here are to have no passion, no professionalism, and no integrity. The team comes across as lazy, incompetent, and resentful. However, a few of the pros do their best and the club is kept very clean. Other dismal aspects— the young ladies poke fun that the middle aged male employees are hungry and obvious, but worse—word has it they hired a former inmate who is teaching on the R.I.R.C. courts with an ankle monitor, among the children too. Overall, a disappointing experience here.

I’ve been taking private lessons here consistently and have always respected the policies, but my recent interaction with the front desk staff member Kent was deeply disappointing. I reached out because I was experiencing concerning symptoms — including a rash — and was worried I might have something contagious. I didn’t ask for special treatment; I offered to cover the court time and simply asked to reschedule the class out of concern for others’ health. Instead of helping, Kent responded with unnecessary rudeness and a condescending tone from the start. When I explained that I was trying to be responsible and avoid exposing others, he dismissively said, “If you want to get them sick, so be it.” That kind of response — especially in a health-related situation — was not only unprofessional but deeply inappropriate. I understand that policies are in place, and I wasn’t trying to circumvent them. But there’s a basic level of decency and empathy that should be expected, and unfortunately, that was completely absent in this interaction. After this experience, I no longer feel comfortable returning.
