I had an amazing experience boarding my mare here and highly recommend anyone looking to board! Kira and her husband have transformed the stables into such a beautiful property. Huge green grass pastures in the summer but dry lots for the winter. Beautiful trails and arenas! The horses are VERY well cared for here by everyone especially the owners. All the horses are so happy here and well cared for and it really shows!

Boarded my horse, Silent Charm (Sy) at Sauvie Island Stables for a year when I was living in Portland (1995/1996). SIS was INCREDIBLE, and he was VERY happy (and I was VERY pleased as his owner) being stabled there. It was about a 25-30 minute drive from my apartment in SE Portland out to the stables; so it was not too bad at all to get from the city out there -- I would go out several times a week to ride him. The WORST parts I think were transporting him cross-country from Vermont to Oregon, that was QUITE intensive to do TWICE in less than the space of a year, BUT I ❤️'d him and wanted him out West with me. He and I had that VERY special kind of human/horse 🙆/🐴 bond that can develop, and we'd already spent MANY, MANY years together by the time I transported him out West. Got him from Vermont to Oregon in late August of 1995, and then back to Vermont (he would spend his Summers at the Summer Camp in Southern Vermont I used to attend before going back to my parent's farm nearby the camp for the Fall/Winter/Spring) from Oregon in mid-May, 1996. He enjoyed making new West Coast friends and being a Western horse (I rarely rode him English when I lived in Portland) I think it was more relaxing for him because he'd been an English style ridden race and then dressage trained horse; so he wasn't as "fussy" when he was being ridden Western because the tack was less stiff and restrictive for him I think. It was fun to learn to ride Western-style out in Oregon anyway as I'd always wanted to learn.

Just joined SIS a couple of months ago and are loving it. So close to me in Portland. So much space to ride and work my horse. My horse is relaxed and happy. His care is great - always clean stalls and loves his turnout. The new owners are making huge improvements to the property and they are so nice and easy to talk to. I have met many kind boarders and look forward to making horse friends and riding the property trails with them.

We signed our 11-year-old daughter up for spring break camp 2023 with the hope that she would gain enough familiarity and horsemanship skills to ride horses with her grandpa at our family ranch over Memorial Day. We are so impressed by how much her understanding of horses increased in this one week camp. By the end of the week she was able to canter in the ring, and in addition to the riding skills she learned about the work and care of horses (cleaning out stalls, tack, etc). Sauvie Island Stables provided a high-quality education experience in horses and horsemanship for my daughter. We liked the camp so much that we've already sent an email about private lessons so we can continue working with SIS.

I’ve been boarding at SIS for about a year. The staff is great—very attentive and clearly care about each horse! Everyone is friendly. The new owners have been doing an amazing job communicating and understanding what’s important to the community of boarders. The improvements they’ve made to an already beautiful property in such a short amount of time has been really impressive to watch!
