Living with a physical disability that requires multiple mobility devices to get around I am used to people being nervous or weary to touch equipment because they don’t want break anything, BUT people in the adaptive community ride bicycles too and need maintenance. I’m getting ready to take on the NYC MARATHON so I wanted to make sure my upgrades and maintenance were done right. I cold called and Pat answered. “SBC how can I help you today?” I asked if he had any experience or would feel comfortable taking a look at my bike, it was a hand cycle and I needed to make sure someone would feel confident working on it. “Experience? Only like 30-35 years!” He laughed and I exhaled! It was awesome! Pat hadn’t even put hands on my bike yet and I was so excited to give them business. I dropped the bike off and every single employee spoke to me using direct eye contact and kindness. Basil has built a high quality team that delivers high quality experiences and results. From the day I dropped it off to yesterday when I picked it up there was honest communication about timelines and transparency regarding budget changes. I may have been the first in that shop searching for some help with a handcycle but I know I won’t be the last. Regardless of what type of bike you have you definitely need to check them out. I've been in several times, often for small bits and pieces when I'm doing my own servicing. They could not be more helpful and pleasant. Latest experience was when I needed a new mechanical shifter. Amazingly, they had it in stock and are doing the fitting as I write. I absolutely and unequivocally recommend these guys. There is another bike shop a little closer to me, but the difference in attitude is like night and day.
