I was hesitant to leave such a poor review, as I really want to like this shop; however, cannot recommend either the store or the classes unless you are relatively experienced in the fiber arts. I have shopped here three times and took a beginning class at Seattle Yarn. On all three shopping occasions, the clerk was more interested in working on their own project or chatting with others about their projects than helping a new customer/ beginner find the supplies they needed. The instructor for the beginning class I took (crochet) was highly dependent on 1:1 help as a teaching method. I felt the class was too large (6 students) or too short (1hr) for this to be an effective method, especially as the instructor was more interested in chatting with people than paying attention to their students. In addition, the instructor would take time away from helping students who were trying to learn the new techniques presented during an individual class to demonstrate/answer questions for different/more advanced topics. Unless you are ok being ignored as paying student in a class, I suggest finding the resources you need on YouTube

I am not a needle crafter, but my mother was. Needed a fix on a sweater years ago, they did a great job in their previous location, then. I find myself in that same fix again, and they're closer to home, now. Internet advice to reduce scratchiness helped ~75%. Elsa's tips made a night and day difference. Plus, I was able to add some lanolin to my stable of Irish sweaters, and family heirlooms. Elsa was very helpful, cautious in her explanations, and quite thorough. She clued me in that the moths in question live in this environment, and offered tips on breaking that cycle. I could not be happier. Glad such a depth of knowledge is just down the street.

Great selection. Lots of indie dyers and hard to find yarns. Also crochet, cross stitch, and needlework supplies, plus buttons, bags, and other lovely swag :)

Poor selection of yarn but conveniently located. I came in about two weeks after a recent visit to pick up more of a color I needed. They were out, so I asked the cashier about when the color I needed would become available again. Instead of offering to place an order, or at least refer me to other places that may have the color that they were out of, she gave me a very long and condescending answer as to why they don't have it anymore and that they wouldn't have it for at least 6 months because it's a "fall yarn" and they don't order "fall yarn" in the summer. I looked up other yarn stores in the area and was able to find what I needed. I have been to this store a handful of times since, and the cashiers are consistently cold and distant--I only come here if I'm too lazy to drive out of West Seattle to other yarn stores.

My absolute favorite LYS in Seattle! They have great weaving classes, and every time I’ve come in with a question or looking for something specific they’ve helped me without complaint.
