I had a mixed experience with Sister R Studio. I took a class here last year and really loved it. The environment was welcoming, and the instructor I had was truly wonderful. Although the classes are a bit on the pricier side, I felt it was worth it and decided to return for another class, this time in crochet. Unfortunately, life threw some unexpected health issues my way. I got very sick and had to be off work for a few days, completely bedridden. I missed the class, but they kindly allowed me to reschedule for this week. Then, to my bad luck, I had a medical emergency and had to go to the ER on the day of the makeup class. I called to explain my situation, hoping they could work with me to reschedule again or offer some sort of alternative,but was met with a firm, “There’s nothing we can do.” I understand businesses have policies, but I was genuinely disappointed by the lack of flexibility or empathy, especially when the reason was a health emergency. I share this not out of anger but simply to encourage the studio to consider offering a bit more compassion or accommodation for customers dealing with unforeseen circumstances. I still believe it’s a great place with talented instructors but sadly, this experience left me feeling a bit dismissed.

This is my local yarn store and has a good selection of yarn. I’ve also taken 2 classes here taught by Shara, who was great! Donna is very nice as well. Unfortunately, the warmth and welcoming vibe of SAS does not extend to all employees. There is one employee that is really condescending and belittling to [adult] customers and students. I’ve referred two friends to shop at Sister Arts, and felt extremely embarrassed when they both came back upset and empty handed because of this specific employees belittling attitude to beginner knitters. Knitting is supposed to be a welcoming community and she is turning off people from ever wanting to try. My friends didn’t even have to mention which employee - I already knew which is alarming! Asking for help takes courage and to be mocked and chastised for not knowing something makes people turned off by learning in general. I loved SAS but I’m really disappointed that the positives of the shop are being tarnished by one person who may be a talented knitter but not ideal for customer service and teaching. It’s very clear that the ONLY negative reviews about this shop are in regard to one employee and not about anything else. I hope SAS takes this feedback pattern seriously because I want their shop to continue to be a happy place to visit and not a stressful one.

Lovely shop with a large selection of yarn in numerous weights and price points. Also available was a limited custom color way, dyed just for Sister-Arts Studio. Always fun to stop in yarn shops whilst traveling and pick up something exclusive to the shop. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the goods available. All located in a lovely area in Lincoln Park with the added bonus of restaurants and cafes in close proximity.

I cannot speak more highly of this shop! I went in today completely unsure of what I wanted to get and both ladies at the shop immediately stepped in to help me. I didn’t get her name, but I appreciate the older lady that helped me today!! She went above and beyond my expectations to make sure I had the amount of yarn I needed and to make sure I got something I loved. Thank you so much to all the staff today, I can’t wait to start my cardigan and I’m beyond happy with my experience.
