Why SweetWater Brewing Company is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

SweetWater Brewing Company, established in 1997 in Atlanta, Georgia, by Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney, has grown into a beloved craft brewery known for its unpasteurized beers and West Coast-style brews. Named after Sweetwater Creek in nearby Georgia, the brewery’s motto “Don’t Float the Mainstream” reflects its commitment to creating unique, bold beer flavors that stand out in the craft beer scene. SweetWater is an ideal spot for friends to meet up, offering a vibrant atmosphere rooted in passion and craftsmanship. The brewery’s origins in a converted warehouse, once a 911 dispatch center, add to its authentic and gritty charm, appealing to those who appreciate a story behind their drink. Highlights include the iconic SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale, a well-balanced and flavorful brew famed for its citrus and floral hop character, named after the day it was first brewed, April 20th. The brewery continually expands its repertoire, featuring beers like the hazy and juicy H.A.Z.Y. IPA, which is praised for its tropical fruit aromas and balanced bitterness. With its large, welcoming taproom and extensive brewing capacity, SweetWater provides a lively yet approachable environment perfect for social gatherings, tasting sessions, and beer appreciation, making it a great destination for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy quality craft beer with friends.

This is such a fun spot! The vibe is on point... beer lovers unite!! The food is great and I promise, these are the best boiled peanuts, I have ever had!!! I was gifted to join a 90 minute guided tour with Laniey and it was awesome! Come thirsty and ready for a good time. We learned so much about beer over all and we also got to see the end-to-end process of how how Sweetwater makes all of their amazing beers!!! Lanier was the perfect tour guide... thank you so much. Wear comfortable shoes and get ready to float with it at the Sweetwater Brewery!

Great brewery especially if your an IPA fan. They have a good amount of seating inside and out with a good atmosphere. The merch section is a good size and I'm sure you will find something there you will want. The food was really really good, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection. Pick this place if it's in on your list.

Wife and I were visiting Atlanta for a romantic weekend on our way back home. Checked out of the hotel and decided to check out the SweetWater Brewery on our way out of town for lunch. Opened at 1130, showed up and it was pretty busy. It didnt seem so at first, but when you take into account the patio/outdoor tables it was a lot of people. My biggest drawback for this place was service. I'm not usually a SweetWater beer type of guy, but the two beers I sampled (both IPAs) were smooth. When I sat down I asked the bartender if I could get a beer list and she told me there wasn't one -- that I could get up and look at the taps available on the long sides of the bar. This isn't the best response. A better one would have been pointing to the QR code on the napkin dispenser that has "Beer List and Menu" written above it and saying that there may be some additional ones not on the menu. There's also a free water dispenser that is self service on the right side of the bar when you can go up and get waters (which is also kind of hard to see based on where you come in and most people comgregate on the left side). I saw a few people who asked for water (who were obviously part of a business luncheon) told to go get their own water. It wasn't mean, but in a service industry where you get paid on tips it isn't always the best option to tell people to get it themselves. Our bar tender was nice other than that, and did provide me a water when asked (in addition to my beers). There didn't seem to be any waitstaff during my time, so I sometimes saw people from outside come in to order. The kitchen seemed a little undermanned for the amount of food orders going there way, especially since they had to bring all the orders out to the table. Looked like two people in the back - it took a while for food to come out but I think they were doing their best. We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, some wings and a pretzel and it took about 45 minutes for everything to arrive, all delivered as it was finished (not the usual restaurant standard but I didn't mind). But for people who get paid by the hour and who aren't on vacation that time is too long to make SweetWater a viable lunch time choice. The food was delicious though, and I definitely would order everything I ordered again. I was also able to try the beer boiled peanuts and while good, I dont think they're better than gas station peanuts. Overall a very good lunch and with a few tune-ups a 5 star stop for sure. May have just been during an off time, I absolutely encourage you to try this place out and get a cold beer.

Had a great time during our first visit! Super kid and pet friendly. A changing station for your baby in the bathroom is always a huge plus for our family. If you love boiled peanuts, these were EASILY some of the best I’ve had. Plenty to share with the whole table.
