Tecolote Shores is a beloved park area in San Diego, offering two distinct sections—North and South—that together provide an excellent venue for meeting up with friends and family. The North section is situated just south of the Mission Bay Resort and features picnic tables, barbecue grills, fire rings, and playground facilities, making it ideal for social gatherings and casual outdoor activities. It allows for up to 100 people with a permit and encourages bringing food (excluding alcohol and glass containers) for enjoyable picnics. There is also access to water for recreation, though no lifeguard on duty, so visitors are advised to exercise caution. The area opens early and stays accessible until late at night, supporting flexible meetups throughout the day. Tecolote Shores South has recently undergone a major upgrade, including a new accessible playground that caters to children of all abilities, ADA-compliant swings, and a zipline, which significantly enhances the inclusivity and fun for families and groups with varied needs. This is a very nice place to do the barbecue or have a party with the family the only thing is is homeless has started to invade the areas and it kind of brings down the value another issue is the trash that people leave behind leave it better than you found it. If people just would pick up their trash it would be so much better if you drive around Fiesta Island it is nothing but dirt and trash I gave it three stars because I do dragon boating there and I do Jeep events there but the trash that people leave behind is just ridiculous

Really well maintained park with several sites for a variety of crowds. I attended a picnic at one of the parks which had an outdoor public gym on one side and a kids playground on the other. It was really great seeing a diverse group of people utilise both, with a beautiful view and clean area. Only thing to note for people going to the park, if you’re attending a party or get together, make sure you get exact locations. I made the mistake of stopping at the first playground, before realising there were more further down the road.

This is such a fantastic playground. So much that we will travel nearly 45 min to come here. I love the zip lines. Children take turns and get along well. The bathrooms are clean and the water fountain water tastes great, which is always a plus! Plenty of picnic benches to enjoy lunch/snack when you want to take a break. There is another playground that's only a few minutes walk to the right of it, which is awesome as well. We come M-F and the parking is typically ample.

Water fountain for you and your pets. Playgrounds. Big spaces for games, volleyball, football, soccer, badminton, Frisbee etc. Nice breeze for paragliding practice for handling and kiting. Not allowed to fly a paramotor. A nice place for a family or friends outing.

One of the newest family friendly area in Mission Bay. There are two playgrounds so don’t just hang out on one, get to the other one for more varieties. It could be very crowded in the weekend but plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the park and the view. Because it’s relatively new, everything looked great. Parking could be a challenge .
