I'm really conflicted about this place. Prices are very reasonable, from ticket prices to food and drink prices. The staff is great. It's certainly intimate. Some of the tables are less than 10 feet from the stage. But that's also where it fails for me - I feel like it's too small. I've been to two shows. One (Bones of JR Jones) was a little too loud and distorted, and the other (Left Lane Cruiser) was WAY to loud and distorted. You couldn't understand any of the vocals during the songs and my ears were ringing well into the next day. I feel like they're trying to do too much with too little a space. In the end, tix are usually $15-20, so you're not going to be out too much money if you don't like it.

Went to 2step Tuesday dance. Instructions at the lesson was nice Atmosphere was nice, other dancers were friendly and social. I didn't care for the band, it was to loud. I wish they played more popular and recognized dance songs. It was a 8 piece band Most were having a good time. Quite a few gathered on the dance floor to talk and drink. The dance floor was small so this made it hard to dance. One couple danced with drinks in hand, a definite no, no most places. Organization would be great so the 2 step dancers can dance around the outside of the floor and others to the inside of the floor, you know traditional dance floor educate . Personnel working at the bar are friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are clean, nice place overall.

In my opinion - and I prefer small venues - The Showdown is a great spot for live music. Roomy, big dance floor, musical variety - square dance to Zydeco - outdoor space, food, and the bartenders know how to pour a solid drink (talking to you, McMenamins). If you go there and have a bad time, it's probably on you.

Awesome Bar & Staff. Recently saw my third show here and the sound is excellent! Huge outdoor fenced and private patio is really great too. It's small and mostly standing only. If the show is sold out then prepare for a very crowded experience. Still love this place and will definitely return often. The sound system for musicians and music is some of the best in Portland in my opinion.
