This is one of the more interesting companies I've seen in Chicago -- their staging of the dumb waiter was creative and surprising. Their Fulton Street Sessions performance lifted me out of a deep funk and was one of the best couple of hours I've ever spent in the theater, I highly recommend with no reservations.

Tuta is a very small theater space near the Ravenswood line L track crossing in the Ravenswood Manor neighborhood. Just the basic essentials...around 20 potential seats. You are up close and personal regardless of where your are sitting. One unisex bathroom and tiny foyer complete the public space. It is seems best suited to one act plays with small casts. I saw Radio Culture there (which was excellent). I'm interested to see how they will design the stage set for the next play.

The theatre is adept at presenting traditional plays with innovative production approaches—The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter was notably performed in a loft-style setting with audiences looking down on the actors, transforming the viewing experience. What practical tips should groups know before visiting TUTA Theatre?
Groups planning a visit to TUTA Theatre should note that the venue’s size and seating arrangement require some flexibility and mindfulness. With limited seating—often fewer than 30 seats—booking tickets well in advance is wise to accommodate everyone comfortably. The intimate setting may also mean that audience members are close to the performance with some standing room, so attendees should come prepared for a cozy but engaging experience. Since the theatre is tucked away behind non-commercial storefronts and is accessed through less conspicuous entrances like alleys or side doors, groups should plan to arrive a little early to find the location easily and enjoy the lobby for socializing. Additionally, because shows tend to be around an hour long with a focus on challenging themes, it’s recommended to check show content ahead to ensure it aligns with the group's preferences. Finally, although concessions are minimal or sometimes limited to drinks for donations, nearby dining options are plentiful for a full evening out before or after the performance, making TUTA part of a perfect cultural and social outing.
How can visiting TUTA Theatre improve your connection with friends or family?
Attending TUTA Theatre with friends or family offers more than entertainment—it fosters meaningful connection through a shared cultural journey. The immersive and often provocative nature of TUTA’s plays invites audiences to think critically and emotionally, creating natural opportunities for conversation and reflection after the show. Experiencing art in such an intimate setting promotes empathy and highlights diverse perspectives, which can deepen understanding among your group members. The setting itself—small and informal—encourages casual interactions and bonding in the lobby or nearby cafes, unlike larger theaters where the scale can feel impersonal. By stepping together into TUTA’s unique theatrical world, groups not only enjoy a memorable night out but also reinforce social ties through collective discovery and discussion, building memories that last well beyond the performance itself.
In summary, TUTA Theatre Chicago is an extraordinary venue for group meetups that combines intimacy, innovation, and immersive artistry to offer an unforgettable cultural experience. Friends and families who value unique storytelling and close connection will find TUTA an inspiring place to rally, creating moments of shared wonder and conversation that deepen relationships while enjoying some of Chicago’s most highly rated experimental theater.
