If you are in the picturesque Wallingford or Fremont neighborhoods of Seattle, this park is a great walking destination. Our grandkids loved the excellent playground and splash area, and the parents were grateful for the bathrooms for cleaning up.

This is a huge playground complete with all of your wants and needs. They have a giant open field, swings, and play structures for all ages. There is plenty of space for everyone to get along here, with tables for your lunch or snack. I even saw the parks & rec crew there fixing the merry go round (though it seemed to work fine).

Park with large open green space for all kinds of activities. A single tennis court 🎾 that usually has some action. The real attraction here is the amazing play structure. A few areas for different ages, there's swings, climbing areas digging station, all surrounded by rubberized surface to help keep kids safe. Washrooms on site 🚻. Sometimes a wading area has water going, not the summer I was here, though. Currently under some construction, but play area still open!

I grew up attending the middle school on the same block (Hamilton international middle school) and adore this playground. They switched from the old school wood timber and metal play structure of my childhood (and this was one of the biggest ones i knew of in Seattle!) due to pest infestation, to the current all metal one. It is still one of the bigger playground installations i know of, ranking up their (in my knowledge) with the city park & playground connected to Nathan Hale High School. I love, my kiddo loves it, and we continue to come back here when we can.

What future developments or changes might impact group use of Wallingford Playfield? While Wallingford Playfield is beloved for its open green spaces, future plans have been proposed that could change its character. A recent proposal to replace much of the grass and trees with synthetic turf aimed at school sports use has generated significant community debate. Concerns center around losing casual open space, the health and environmental risks of artificial turf, sound and light pollution from extended field usage, and the removal of mature trees. Such changes might limit spontaneous games and casual use by community members, prioritizing scheduled athletic events instead. For groups planning meetups, it’s worth staying informed about these developments, as alterations could affect the availability and nature of activities in the park. The local Wallingford Park Alliance actively advocates for preserving the park’s current multi-use, inclusive character, representing a community invested in maintaining the park as a welcoming gathering place for all.

In summary, Wallingford Playfield stands out as a top-tier park for hosting meetups with friends and family because of its expansive and versatile recreational opportunities, inclusive and accessible facilities, and tranquil natural beauty.
