Taking classes at Yu Tang ceramics is hands down one of the best decisions I've ever made! Curtis Yu, the owner, is incredibly welcoming, kind, and understanding. The instructors, including Day Chan, are friendly, patient, and encouraging. In fact, while I'm complimenting the staff- let me say that Bryn, Megan, the Sarahs, (and the other staff members I haven't met, I'm sure) are so helpful, and brighten my day whenever I see them! There is also an in-studio turtle named Turtle, who is super cute. Yu Tang Ceramics is truly a place for relaxation, focus, and building a creative community. It's so worth it to go here, if you can!

(make sure you bring an apron!) Today was my first day for a 3-week private instruction series and I can’t wait to go back. My instructor, Iphis, was so easy, kind and mellow to take direction from. I felt both challenged and supported by the directives and am happy with the results of my first day. The facility itself was in great condition and had a serene ambiance. All the basic tools for construction (for both hand-building and wheel) were available as well as space to glaze and fire. I’m looking forward to next week!

Yu Tang is a wonderful place. I took the beginner wheel throwing class and would wholeheartedly recommend it. You get a lot of attention from the instructors (who are incredible) and a lot of self-guided time. This is a great place to start if you’re looking to try something new, and you’d be surprised at how much you can learn in 6 weeks! I loved it so much I signed up again

I took the 8-weeks summer beginner class with Day. Day is a fantastic teacher, just altogether. He is incredibly patient, when he demonstrates, answers questions or when asked for help. Any interaction I had with him was pleasant and his passion comes through. Even when I ran into him outside class hours, during open studio he would be open for conversation and sharing his knowledge. As a student you are allowed to use the studio one day a week during the course at your convenience, which is a critical part of being successful in this beginner class. The studio itself is a bit compact and you'll be working in close proximity of other members and students, but nothing that'd be a big deterrent.

This studio has such a lovely, warm, and creative energy— I would recommend the courses to anyone! I had an amazing experience during the beginner 8-week class over the summer. Even in a group setting, the instructors were great at giving everyone individualized attention and meeting each student where they were at. The space itself is very well maintained with good emphasis on safe practices. Studio hours outside of class were easy to sign up for, and I found the other members of the community to be very kind about sharing knowledge. I hope to return for another class or join as a member in the future. I can’t stress enough that the people here are amazing! All my thanks to the wonderful instructors (Day and Bryn) and to Curtis for providing such a uniquely welcoming place to explore and connect over ceramics.
