However, I feel compelled to share a concern that’s been troubling me. Each time I donate, I notice that the staff — particularly some of the girls working there — are the first to sort through the donated items and select what they want to purchase before those items ever reach the sales floor. While I understand that occasional staff purchases may be allowed, it appears to happen consistently and openly. This practice gives the impression that donations meant to benefit animals are being used for personal gain instead. It’s disheartening as a donor to feel that the public doesn’t get a fair opportunity to purchase quality items — and ultimately, that the animals may be missing out on potential support. Frankly, the store has started to feel more “picked over” and less mission-focused lately, and I believe this may be one reason why.
