I’m not typically a review writer, but when an owner is extremely rude, I feel like it’s important to note it (especially because there are tons of options for ceramics in SD and I would suggest going elsewhere). My initial complaint is that I was gifted a gift card to this studio, and when I called to make an appointment to use it, the owner said she had no record of it. Luckily, my Mom and I were able to find the gift card communication in our email and forward it to the owner. She was super dismissive on the phone when I initially called about the gift card, and only backtracked once I provided proof of the pre-paid amount. So right off the bat, unorganized as a business owner. Then, I went in for a hand building class and made my piece. It was a fun experience in person and I was super happy with what I created! At the end of the session, I was told that I would be called when my piece was dried enough for the next step, and then I could make another appointment. I never received a call and truthfully time just passed and I forgot about my piece. I am moving, so as I have been wrapping things up, I remembered and called to see if I could schedule another appointment to finish my piece. The owner was again super dismissive and told me that the piece was no longer there. She said it was over three years ago that I came in (which isn’t true at all, it was within this year). I let her know that I never received a call for the next step, and it’s disappointing that my piece was thrown out (all the while being very kind). She immediately started berating me on the phone and telling me it was obviously all my fault and I didn’t care about my piece. It is definitely my fault for not checking in sooner and letting so much time pass, and I understand that they cannot store things forever. However, as an owner of a business, I think it is important to conduct yourself with kindness, and to be organized. Some of the fault lies with her never calling me to tell me the piece was ready for the next step (as she said she would), and I know that this is due to her unorganized business model (evident by her losing the gift card record). I wish that instead of immediately yelling at me on the phone, she could have explained the policy and worked with me or at the very least have been kind. I take responsibility for letting so much time pass, and honestly I don’t blame her for not keeping the piece. I do blame her for being unorganized and rude. So - I would just say that with so many options in SD, this business is not impressive and I would check out other places if you can.
