Elbel Field at the University of Michigan is a state-of-the-art practice facility primarily designed for the Michigan Marching Band. This new field, recently relocated to South Fifth Avenue, offers nearly double the size of the previous field, providing ample space for rehearsals and performances. Highlighted by its integration of cutting-edge technology, Elbel Field features sound amplification systems, overhead cameras, and a large video board that enhance band practice and educational experiences. The site includes a main field aligned with Michigan Stadium and a secondary practice area, which together create a comprehensive environment for both individual and group rehearsals. Amenities such as 18 water bottle refill stations, shaded rest areas, and campus-wide Wi-Fi access further improve comfort and usability, especially during hot weather. The field connects seamlessly to the indoor practice space at Revelli Hall via a tree-lined walkway called Wolverine Way, facilitating easy transitions between indoor and outdoor rehearsals. Named in honor of Louis Elbel, composer of the university's iconic fight song "The Victors," this facility represents the institution's dedication to supporting its students and enhancing their musical education. Furthermore, Elbel Field's development aligns with broader campus initiatives, which include expanding affordable student housing by transforming the original site where the older field once stood.

It has certain open hours so you need to check umich website to make sure it’s open. The website does not specify whether the field being reserved so sometimes you will go and find out it’s in use. It’s a great place to play sand Vball (wish there were more cover/shelter area under the sunny day). The water fountain isn’t working so you have to bring own drinks to keep hydrated!

What a joy to return to the field to watch my daughter and other Flags teammates spin their flags (graduated 2015) and listen to the band practice- Alumni Homecoming 2019 practice. After practice, we sat in the stands and enjoyed the treats I brought- a box of Panera coffee, fruit and muffins. What a beautiful morning!

Full of memory. In August 1995, I was a graduate student living in Fletch Hall. My roommate and I went out to walk around, see students playing football in Elbel field, at that time, coming from a third world country, I had no idea what is football. Why people use their hand and called it football. Then in August 2021, my son is playing in the Michigan Marching Band. He ask me send him to Ravlli hall, and he is practice in Elbel field every week. We were tailgating all the home games in Elbel fields, and this year we beat the buckeyes. How wonderful is that.
