This Store Has Become a Complete Disappointment. I came into this Jewel-Osco yesterday looking to buy a large amount of fruit and vegetable cuttings. The cooler was nearly empty. I figured maybe it was just bad timing, so I came back today, earlier in the day. It was somehow even worse. The produce cooler looked untouched. Almost completely empty. No effort to restock. No options. This is unacceptable. Customers are walking in ready to spend money and being met with bare shelves. The produce department is failing, plain and simple. This isn’t just about today or yesterday. The same thing happened last week. I’ve now wasted four trips. I used to rely on this store to get everything I needed in one stop. Now I leave empty-handed and frustrated. The produce department has fallen apart. Whoever is in charge of it clearly isn't doing their job and needs to be held accountable. And the bathroom? Disgusting. It’s dirty, the sink is falling off the wall, and the changing table looks like a serious health hazard. If I had a child with me, I wouldn’t feel safe using it. It’s clear that the front-end manager is not doing routine checks or maintenance. There is no excuse for a public restroom in this condition. This location has been on a downward slide for months. There is zero consistency and even less effort. The produce manager needs to step up, and the front-end manager needs to take responsibility for the condition of the bathroom and overall store appearance. At this point, the management team needs to be retrained or replaced with people who actually care. Until that happens, I will no longer be shopping here.

I’ve shopped at this location for 3 years and quality and experience have only gone downhill since day one. The products in the meat and seafood counter rarely look fresh nowadays and some pre-packaged meat offerings are constantly two-weeks expired (not to mention the time they had five-month expired salad kits on shelves). Inventory is hit or miss each week, the aisles are cramped. Staff members are usually nice to customers but sometimes verbally rude to each other which creates an off putting environment. Overall, it’s a decent location for a quick trip but don’t expect to make it a one-stop-shop.

The guy working in the fish market is so rude and disrespectful. I can't even understand why this store has hired him to do anything. I can't even begin to tell you how rude he is. It's just it's too crazy to even explain. His name is Yai (More similar to that) they should know. He is the most disrespectful man I've ever seen at a grocery store. They must really be desperate to hire someone. Harry is so professional. Noah is also very professional and I had a pretty good experience with Eric. I know the people this door actually care and hairy prove that as well. Some other people have spoken to in the past about different little things.

New- Today, store is crowded with large purchasers and delivery services ... so used self-checkout. Had a basket with 1/2 to go on SNAP and 1/2 cash. You cannot easily do two transactions on these machines. There is no place to place basket -- machine will not close out first transaction until shelf is empty. Machine will not begin 2nd transaction until "paid" merch is removed from bagging shelf. No place to set anything. This is hell for SNAP users because we usually need to split payment forms (two transactions). Today, I was trying to deal with this by ringing it all up then splitting payment at the end. The machine took my SNAP, then I inserted my cash card, then my pin and everything froze ... girl came up, pushed a bunch of buttons, a receipt came out... the machine then showed that the first payment group had been paid and asked for the next payment form. This left me with the problem that it appeared that the machine had pulled from the wrong card and I was going to have to pay all groceries from my cash account. She didnt even know what had happened. The manager eventually came over and we both eventually figured out how to tell what account had actually been charged. This whole interaction was frustrating and unneccessary. Aldi's machines don't have these problems -- just Jewells, But Jewells carries items that Aldi's does not. 🤦🏽♂️ Whoever project managed installing these self-checkout machines should be forced to try use them 💁🏽♂️ This is also a reason why suburban grocers should not be allowed to buy urban grocery stores ... Jewells no longer gets Chicago shoppers ✋ Old - Service is improving due to reopening the full-service lanes. Bakery and Hot Deli have returned to old service goods and service -- more-or-less -- new self-check-out machines are still useless if you have more than two items or bring your own bags. Prices are still the highest in neighborhood. Campbells Soup, reg price is $2.99, on sale for $1.99 this week, but still only $1.39 reg price across the street at Aldi's 💁🏽♂️.... so more on self-checkout -- if you bring your own bags, you have to wait for employee to tell it so before setting them down... if you have large items or too many, the machine stops until employee can help, Jewells has 5 or 6 ways to discount price, esp with the app, so you do not know final price until you click to pay and it tabulates final price -- if you decide price is too high... of course, you wait for employee to remove item. My avg purchase is 2 to 10 goods per but usually have to wait for human employee to adjust machine at least twice so it takes longer for the customer. Finally, check-out lines, even for self-checkout are always at least 20 feet (8 to 10 people), but during busy times, all the way to the back of the store (Montrose & Broadway store).
