My sons name is Mitchell, so we had to go see it! Anywhere by the beach, and I'm happy! Construction on West Cliff drive right now (05/2025), but you can walk all along above the cove, and get down to it by the cliff rocks.

Yet another surprisingly lovely secretive pocket beach, on a coast chock-full of ‘em, this one has a stairwell access in good condition, & very accessible tide pools & boulders covered in sea life ready for exploration. Also plenty of sand for picnics & sunbathing, yet not crowded, even on a fine sunny Sunday! Currently, the street above is closed to traffic & there’s lots of repair construction. Closest parking along residential streets only. We watched a few surfers catching a short break away from the Steamer Lane crowds, too.

The entire shoreline north of Santa Cruz, California, is beautiful and serene. I can revisit this shoreline time and time again. There are many beaches along this coast besides Mitchell’s Cove Beach. So check out some of the other areas. This is usually a very quiet beach where are you can enjoy A romantic dinner on the beach or watching the sunset. Even on warmer days there is a slight breeze that always keeps a nice temperature. Very easy to get to by driving north from Santa Cruz on Highway one. The parking is a little difficult because it’s along the road.

This is a small, but dog-friendly beach with lots of interesting tide pools to check out. There are even a couple of little caves that are still large enough to hang out in to get away from the wind. There was plenty of free parking, even on a weekend.

Such a beautiful beach! It is mostly empty and nearby is a beach where there are a ton of dogs off leashed and just enjoying life. This beach was super clean and not too windy. I am definitely coming back and bringing my dog next time.
