What an amazing course. I flew in from El Paso and headed straight there. It was a busy Friday and I luckily got in with a 3some. The layout was fantastic and very forgiving. It was in such good shape. Greens were like a perfect carpet, they were just really slow. Probably because they got 3 inches of rain that morning. You must play this course if you are visiting.

Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin, TX is an outstanding public course that impresses on multiple levels. The greens were in great condition—smooth, well-maintained, and true-rolling. The layout is ideal for high handicappers, offering generous fairways and playable rough, yet it still presents enough strategic challenges to keep low handicappers engaged. Water hazards and well-placed bunkers demand smart shot selection without feeling punishing. The staff at Kizer were professional, respectful, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their friendly and organized approach contributes to the course’s welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be returning.

In order to get a tee time on the weekends, you have to get to the club house at 5am on Tuesdays and wait at least an hour in hopes of a decent tee time. So the only people they want on the course are retired people. Completely discriminates against anyone who works, in school or has a family. A few years ago, the weekend reservation was online and phone so anyone could get a decent tee time. If it was a private course, it’s their rules. But these are Austin public courses that get our tax dollars … so they can ensure only the “right” people get the best tee times.

I wanted to like this course. Visited on a great day and paired with a good group of players. Solid layout with a few challenging holes. Didn’t matter, greens were terrible. Not sure if they were recently seeded or if they are unhealthy but burnt out in many spots with putts hopping consistently. I know this is a muni but please take better care of your greens.
