SnowCap Community Charities

Why SnowCap Community Charities is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

SnowCap Community Charities is a philanthropic organization rooted deeply in community support since its founding in 1967 by local pastors who recognized a gap in social services for residents east of 82nd Avenue in Multnomah County. It offers a welcoming and vital space for neighbors in need to access food, clothing, and advocacy services. Families benefit from well-organized pre-packed food boxes alongside fresh and frozen food options, available up to twice a month through August 2025, ensuring consistent meal support. The organization also provides clothing for individuals of all ages by appointment, allowing each family to receive assistance monthly. A distinctive feature of SnowCap is its Community Garden, where low-income families cultivate their own vegetables in raised beds, fostering a sense of empowerment, community involvement, and healthy living. The dedicated board and staff work hard to respond compassionately to basic human needs, making SnowCap a great place not only to meet friends but also to support and uplift one another in shared community values. The commitment to local neighbors and inclusive services makes SnowCap a cornerstone for anyone seeking help or wanting to contribute to meaningful philanthropy in the Portland area.

The people are descent they give you okay food but they also give you a lot of bread like that's mostly what you get and a lot of that bread is bread that people would not eat most people anyway. I know we're supposed to be grateful and I am grateful but at the same time I wish these places would start giving food that they themselves would eat or feed to their family. But I am very grateful and they are doing a good service to the community.

Snowcap clothing: The organization itself maybe once was something beautiful that has helped people and maybe they got what they needed. But its now awful. Please take a refresh course. My family and I are currently in a financial position like never before, unexpectedly, and needed some clothes on a pinch. The clothing closet we visited was an awful experience. First off there were a few volunteers that were staring at us the whole time, and some were very nosey, controlling in everyone's business including ours. This is a FREE clothing closet not loss prevention training. We are not thieves, we are not here to steal the charities free items. We are not drug addicts or resellers, but we were absolutely treated as so. The majority of the clothes had significant staining, rips and holes or were so worn out it should be thrown away especially the childrens section. All the good non ripped clothing is stashed in the back, which I understand name brands and designers usually are because I've volunteered at MANY clothing ministries so I know protocol, but put out some decent items like actually wearable unstained garments. Please consider the people your serving and remember that your volunteering to better people's lives. No one wants to walk around in stained clothing or have holes in their clothes. It feels like the volunteers don't actually care about the peoplw. There needs to be refresh on the community standards of WHY you are serving. Maybe think: is this presentable? Could I go out in this? Would I want my grandchild to wear this? If all my friends were here would I put these items out for them? From one seasoned volunteer to another, I hope this helps you serve others well.
