I visited Tanyard Creek Park with my dog, Moose, and we loved it! It’s such a peaceful, relaxing spot—perfect for walking or jogging. The trail is beautiful and even connects to other paths if you’re in the mood for a longer run. Everything was clean and well-kept, and the natural surroundings make it feel like a little escape in the city. We’ll definitely be back!

This has got to be one of my favorite lunch parks I have found so far! It's not very big, but what it doesn't have in size it makes up for in natural noise and a feeling of isolation in nature if you face the right direction. I took lunch in the creek connected to the park by a waterway. The running water and little waterfalls pretty much removed all the car noise. If you aren't out for a lunch walking the creek bed is a fun little jaunt, but there isn't much here other than historical marks about the Battle of Peachtree Creek. The park is off the beltline and isn't a bad stop for a break on a bike or jog or a quick detour when on a walk. The Beltline running adjacent/through it really makes for a nice bit of non-car dependent connectivity. Park also has a small parking lot for someone on a work lunch break who has to drive a vehicle. See my pictures for an idea of the park, parking, and places to sit for a lunch.

Good trail for walking and biking. Lots of bridges and great view of the golf course. Definitely recommended to anyone. Great place to start would be the Tanyard Creek Parking which has almost 10 cars to park. The bike trail was nearly 3 miles long with good elevation and decend for casual fun.

Good Park hidden in the cut with a lot of open space. What is awesome is that it has the BeltLine trail running through and you’re able to get a good workout in. The scenery is beautiful and picturesque, we will definitely be taking our children back again to take in more details 😊

A cool green area next to Tanyard Creek, which is an "urban creek" connected to sewerage. The "park" area is a little green open field & and a trail (also known as Northside trail) that is cool to walk/run through. The trail is part of the Beltline project. Some street parking is available on Walthall drive and there is a parking lot on Collier called "Northside Trail Parking" on Google Maps, with space for 5-6 cars. Overall this is a very pleasant local park with a good view of Tanyard Creek itself, but no meant to handle lot of traffic. There is a small playground attached to Walthall Dr. No restrooms.

This connectivity allows groups to tailor their outings by extending their walks or rides, observing urban nature or exploring nearby neighborhoods. Beyond recreational features, Tanyard Creek Park holds historical significance as part of the site of the Civil War Battle of Peachtree Creek. Visible markers and plaques near the parking area provide informative insights, allowing visitors to reflect on the past battles that shaped the region. This unique combination of natural beauty and historical context enriches any group meetup by offering educational moments alongside leisure. Visitors often appreciate how the creek running through the park and the mature canopy of trees create a cool, calming atmosphere contrasted against the weight of history present in the surroundings. The park thus becomes a place for friends and family to connect not only with each other but also with the heritage of Atlanta. The tranquil creek setting invites moments of quiet conversation, birdwatching, or photography while the educational elements foster curiosity and discussion among all ages, ensuring your meetup is both enjoyable and meaningful.
In what ways is Tanyard Creek Park family-friendly and welcoming for groups with children? Families with kids find this park particularly accommodating because of its carefully designed playground facilities and safe, contained spaces for play. The presence of separate play areas for toddlers and older children is a thoughtful feature that ensures age-appropriate fun and security. Parents can supervise easily from nearby benches or shaded picnic spots, while children explore climbing ropes, slides, swaying swings, and spring riders. The ground cover of wood chips enhances safety, reducing the risk of injuries during play. Dogs are welcome and there are designated waste stations, which is a bonus for pet owners joining gatherings. While some physical access points involve stairs, the main entrance offers a rubber-surfaced ramp making stroller and wheelchair access possible, though the terrain overall presents some challenges. This blend of amenities and natural settings creates a welcoming environment where children can expend energy safely while adults relax, socialize, or get involved in activities like walking the trails together.
What should you know about parking and accessibility at Tanyard Creek Park? The park has a small parking lot with approximately six spaces located off Collier Road near Overbrook Drive, which may fill up quickly during busy times, so arriving early or carpooling is advisable for groups. Importantly, the park is not fully handicap accessible due to stairs leading down from the parking lot to the Northside Trail and playground area. However, an alternative entrance at the intersection of Walthall Drive NW and Colland Drive offers a ramp with a rubberized surface, allowing better access for those using wheelchairs or strollers. Despite this, parents with very young children or those with limited mobility should plan accordingly, as the terrain includes natural slopes and stairs and there are no on-site bathrooms or drinking fountains. Bringing your own water and planning restroom stops before arrival can help ensure a comfortable experience. This knowledge allows groups to make informed decisions on how best to accommodate all participants and ensures an enjoyable, hassle-free outing.

The shaded areas beneath the oak and pine trees protect everyone from strong sun or unexpected light showers, extending the usability of the park throughout the day. Dog waste stations help keep the park clean for all visitors, which is a valuable feature for groups with pets. Though the lack of restrooms or water fountains means groups need to prepare by bringing drinks and planning bathroom breaks elsewhere, this minimalist approach preserves the park’s unspoiled character and encourages visitors to immerse deeply in the natural surroundings. Additionally, online booking options for group inquiries streamline organizing special events or celebrations. These features collectively offer the essential comforts needed to host hassle-free and memorable outdoor gatherings.
