I went on the GingerRoot Wild Foods Adventure, and can't wait to go to more. The wild plants and edible plants I learned about were not only easy to harvest and forage for, but were absolutely delicious. I have tried wild foods before, but none of the edible plants I have eaten in the Northwest were very good. But I knew that there had to be a reason people kept eating them. John Kallas walked us through the habitats of these wild edible plants (even showing us garden weeds that we could eat) and taught us how to properly identify, collect, and cook these foods. Not only did he turn wild edible plants into "normal" food for me, he gave me the tools to help me make wild foods a part of my regular diet. And I will. John Kallas is a fabulous, entertaining teacher with a vast amount of knowledge on the subject of wild plants. I also appreciate that if he doesn't know about a plant or subject, he tells you so outright so as to eliminate any possible confusion. I will definitely be taking more "Wild Food Adventures" courses, as I found that the skills I learned are a tool I can use for a lifetime. And are quite delicious.

Money well spent. I learned about wapato, indian corn, bull thistles, carrot flowers, wild snap peas (?), rose hips, hawthorne, etc. All on Sauvie/Wapato Island. The wapato field was pretty amazing, and as a great added bonus, the blackberries were in prime form - huge, succulent, and everywhere (mid-August, 2014). John's a great teacher of this stuff.
