This store has some of the best people working there of any grocery store in Seattle. They are kind, hard working and deserve better than what this store has become. The surrounding area is overwhelmed by homeless people and the gas station is teaming with people aggressively asking for money. That’s a really tough spot to put your employees but the policies they have tried to implement in reaction to this make everyday shopping their incredibly frustrating. I mostly use the self checkout option and they have implemented increased “detection” of possible theft using video cameras. Fine I get it, but I’ve had several interactions where the video system thinks I’m trying to steal something and the employee who is required to come clear the system is short with me, accused me of not properly scanning my items and even when they count everything and agree it’s an error, not theft, give me a ton of attitude about them having to come help me. Even after the video scanning I need to get my receipt “checked” by a security guard who doesn’t even pretend to look at my receipt or cart. None of this actually solves theft. If I’m going to steal something I’m not going through sleight of hand tricks under a camera, I’m sticking it in my bag and walking out, which I watch happen at least once a visit. My wife and I have both had awful experiences here and have decided to no longer shop there. Don’t setup policies that alienate and burden your paying customers. I don’t want to shop somewhere that I have to constantly prove I’m not shop lifting. Again, this stores employees are for the most part amazing people, this is a systems and policy issue but it still makes the store a terrible experience. Do better Safeway.

Wow! This may have been like a universe test. I went in to grab a few items for dinner. I paid for the items at Self check out. Unaware at the time, I dropped 100 dollar bill. I went back to my car. Sat a moment and made some business calls. A guy, whom I had seen around came out ranting. His issue was that he found 100 dollar bill. The I assume manager took it from him. As he was telling me the story. I began to search my pockets. Sure enough. My 100.00 was missing. I thought a stroke of luck I could go in and tell the manager. When I asked him about it. He said flat out lying no. I was beside my self. Almost loosing my composure. He essentially stole the money. Strong armed the guy, and lied to me. It is a sad world we live in.

I had an extremely frustrating experience at Safeway on March 2 at 10:40 PM. I was using the self-checkout when I noticed that a digital coupon price did not match what I was being charged. I asked the male employee who was working in the self-checkout section for help, but his response was shockingly unprofessional. Instead of assisting me, he dismissed my concern, saying that the digital coupon and actual price are different, as if there was nothing that could be done. When I showed him the product and explained the discrepancy, he acted strangely, laughed at me, and said he couldn’t do anything because “the system is not working.” Not only was he rude, but he also outright lied to me. He claimed that he couldn’t adjust the price, even though price adjustments are a standard practice at most stores. When I called the manager, she came over and manually adjusted the price without any issue—proving that he absolutely could have helped me but chose not to. Instead, he looked me in the face and lied, simply because he didn’t want to do his job. His attitude was not just unprofessional; it was unacceptable. Whether he was indifferent, lazy, or just being an outright jerk, customers shouldn’t have to deal with this kind of treatment. I have never encountered such poor service at Safeway before, and I hope management takes action. Customers deserve respect, not to be laughed at and lied to when they ask for assistance.

Wouldn’t let me buy liquor with a Canadian drivers license. Even the manager said “only a passport”. However Washington state liquor and cannabis board clearly state on their website that a Canadian drivers license is perfectly acceptable to purchase liquor in the state. I never had an issue at any other grocery store purchasing alcohol, only this Safeway. May I suggest brushing up on your laws before denying valid ID.
