My 6 and 8 year old children were taking lessons here for about 2 months. The lessons were structured that one child had the main instructor and the other child had a student helper. At one lesson, I realized that the student helper wasn’t having my daughter do much at all, i.e. she did not let my daughter lead the horse out of the stable or steer the horse as they were doing the rounds even though she had done in previous lessons (felt like she was at a carnival or fair). I asked the main instructor if the helper knew how many lessons my daughter had, as she wasn’t having her do much. The instructor told me that some helpers are not very vocal or assertive, and that she was content with a warm body. Before our next lesson, I asked if we can have a more assertive helper so we can get the most out of our lessons as these lessons are $80 each and I wanted them to be instructive for both children the entire time. She told me to find somewhere new and good luck. I felt this was pretty unfair as we had a decent rapport over our previous lessons. I was completely caught off guard and disappointed with the unprofessional and rude departure. Please be prepared if you have more than one child to be disappointed.

A couple of weeks ago, we saw smoke and learned the property two homes over had a fire (house fire and wildfire). We got the evacuation notice and shamefully do not have a trailer for our three horses - it was one of those things I had delayed out of over-researching which one to get. While I was getting some names of transport options from some friends, my son looked up stables near us and called the Weddles. John and Dana Weddle dropped everything and came within 15 minutes with their six-horse trailer and evacuated our horses for us to their stables. Put them in stalls overnight, fed them hay, and we were able to focus on being ready to evacuate our house and other animals. We ended up not having to leave, but it was such a relief to know the horses were safely out. They brought them back in the morning and would not let us give them any money for overnight boarding or transportation. They were just being good neighbors. My younger son, daughter, and I had taken about a year of lessons with Weddle about 10 years ago, so while WE were familiar with them, I'm certain they did not remember us. They were just being helpful to strangers. And wrt the lessons we took; I grew up with horses and worked at a riding stable as a teen, in exchange for lessons. I can say the quality of lessons I had at Weddle were as good as any I have ever had. There is a focus on horsemanship and not just lessons, in that students are taught how to groom and tack their own horses (in contrast, the riding stable I worked at in Virginia tacked the horses for the students and the only thing those students learned was how to ride). I observed healthy, curious horses and not ones that were burned out and shut down. I was happy with the quality of instruction in the riding arena. If you want good quality solid lessons from genuinely nice people who care for their neighbors, this is the place for you.
