Think of it more as “Whale Search” than whale *watch*. Had to choose between SDWW, Wild Pacific, and Gone Whale Watching, and chose SDWW because US NEWS (or Newsweek, maybe) rated SDWW highly and it fit both schedule and budget, although I would have preferred the other two cause their websites inspired more confidence. Drove from LA and on site parking and check in were easy, our big boat the Privateer was comfortable, crew young and nice enough, and saw many pods of dolphins slicing the ocean waves this way and that in playful formation. Up close too. Great vibes. No whales though. Do your research first. I later read that whales feed in the morning and late afternoon so our 12:30 pm excursion was perhaps not ideal. And blue whales’ food is not available in water that’s too warm as it was when we went out according to the guide. Generally speaking, the guide’s commentary was minimal and not too educational. Not as rich and detailed as one would expect from a marine biologist. I think they referred to her as their “naturalist.” The beautiful weather and dolphins and the comfort of the big boat were the redeeming features of the trip… If you’re dead set on seeing whales and / or learning a lot about sea life and the ocean from your guide, I would not go with them without a guarantee in advance. I’d like to go on the Hana Hou instead …

Had a great time out on the water with San Diego Whale Watch! We were on the "Inspiration," which the crew said was one of their newer boats—and it was a smooth ride. The crew was fantastic, super friendly, and full of interesting facts. While the whales must have been having a spa day and decided not to show up, the dolphins more than made up for it. We saw tons of them, including some adorable babies! The water was stunningly beautiful, so even on a day when the whales are playing hide-and-seek, it's still a gorgeous cruise. Plus, the free refills on soft drinks are a nice touch, especially for those of us who tend to get a little thirsty from all the dolphin-spotting excitement. It's definitely a fun and family-friendly activity, even if the whales decide to ghost you!

Great experience! First time on a whale watching boat, and I was not disappointed! Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Walking around the entire time asking guests if they were enjoying themselves. Though I did not indulge in the beverages or snacks, there was plenty too choose from. We went 14mi out to sea, .5mi from Mexico board when we saw two whales! 🐋 plenty of dolphins ( hundreds-thousands)to take pics of as they swim and jump into the air next to the boat and in the boat wake. I highly recommend them as your whale watching experience!! 👏

Amazing experience, we rode along side two different pods of dolphins, a nursery of short beak on our way out and long nose on our way back in. The staff are extremely friendly and checked in often to ensure everyone is having a great time. Our guides pointed out various marine life and gave tips on how to spot. Great fun for groups, family, or single rider. Two tear deck, I recommend the front splash zone for some sea breeze air. Would definitely return. We were a group of students and I hope to bring my family some day.

This was a fun trip and exciting when we got to see so many dolphins. The weather was great and the boat was full. Even though it was a full boat, it was still easy to see all the wildlife and get pictures. The crew was amazing! They are very knowledgeable and super friendly. Thanks for the great 3 hour experience!
